The stables are situated only a 5 minute ride from
the vast sandy beach of Kilchattan Bay. There are many scenic routes
surrounding the trekking centre including moor and hill rides.
For refreshments,
The Kingarth Hotel is situated next door to the centre, whilst the
St Blane's Hotel is approximately 1 mile away in the village of Kilchattan
Bay. Both hotels serve good meals throughout the day. There is also
a post office/shop in the village.
If you fancy a break from the riding, Bute has lots more to offer.
There are 3 golf courses on the island, including a 9-holer about
1 mile away. The island capital of Rothesay is 7 miles away with lots
of shops, pubs, restaurants, a swimming pool, cinema, museum and Rothesay
Castle. Another must-see attraction, only 3 miles away, is Mount Stuart
House, the family seat of the Marquess of Bute. For more information
about the island visit www.isle-of-bute.com.
The
Trekking Centre has a large variety of horses and ponies ranging in
size from small lead rein ponies to large thoroughbred
types. We have mounts suitable for beginners on their first
trek out and competition horses for riders with experience.
We can cater for casual bookings on a daily basis as well as offering
the complete holiday package. We can arrange anything from
a 2 day mini-break (see below) to a full 5 day holiday and
we welcome individuals and couples as well as larger parties.
If you are planning a work or club "day out" and
will arrange transport from the ferry, a ride out and lunch at one
of the local hotels. Please contact us for more details.
Throughout the year we have specialist instructors and we also run
various different competitions such as gymkhanas.

We cater for unaccompanied children in our own
home, 500 yards from the stables, living as part of our family on
a full board basis. They are at the stables all day and in the evening
they can mix with the other kids. Trips to the swimming pool are always
on the agenda as well as exploring the beach next to the house.
Accommodation for adults and families can be arranged at the various
local hotels and B & B's. Have a look at www.visitbute.com or www.isle-of-bute.com for details of accommodation on the island.
A small camp site is available at the stables with spaces for tents
and touring caravans. Shower facilities are available.
The Isle of Bute is one of the most accessible
islands in Scotland. There are regular flights into both Glasgow and
Prestwick airports from Stansted, Luton and Heathrow.
Flight times and prices can be checked at Easyjet
and Ryanair.
Both airports are about 40mins from the ferry terminal for Rothesay.
There is also a railway link from Glasgow Central station direct to
the ferry terminal.
Access to the island is provided by Caledonian MacBrayne ferries from
Wemyss Bay (pron.Weems) to Rothesay which takes about 35 mins. There
is also a small ferry across the Kyles of Bute at the north end of
Bute. Details of timetables can be found at www.calmac.co.uk
Once you are on the island, Kingarth Trekking Centre can be reached
by car, taxi or bus. We are at the southern end of Bute about 7 miles
from Rothesay town centre and we can arrange transport from the ferry
if required. Unaccompanied childern will be met at the ferry. |
